Pensum Documentation

Pensum lives inside your Obsidian vault. Your tasks, meetings, projects, and wiki entries are plain markdown files you can read, edit, version, and sync however you already do — Pensum adds the views, capture surfaces, AI features, and agent access that Obsidian doesn’t have out of the box.

These docs are organised by what you’re trying to do, not by what’s on the screen. Read top to bottom if you’re new; skip around if you’re not.

  • Installation — get Pensum running in your vault. Three minutes if you have Obsidian 1.11.4 or later.
  • First run — what to try in the first ten minutes after installing.
  • Features overview — every feature on one page, with links into the deep dives.
  • Smart Capture — context-aware parsing in Quick Add.
  • Smart Triage — AI-suggested project assignment for the Inbox.
  • Provenance — how Pensum keeps user-authored and AI-generated content distinguishable.
  • Wiki stubs — capture concepts now, develop them later with the Curate view (and AI help if you want).
  • MCP server — let Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or any MCP-compatible agent work with your vault.
  • CLIpensum task today and everything that flows from it. Built for humans and agents.
  • Architecture & data flow — diagrams of what runs locally, what runs on Pensum’s servers, what crosses the network.
